What Is Market Cap
Market capitalization is calculated by multiplying the current price of one coin by the total number of coins in circulation. If Bitcoin is trading at $71,000 and there are 20 million Bitcoin in circulation, Bitcoin’s market cap is $71,000 multiplied by 20 million, which equals $1.42 trillion.

Market cap represents the total value of all existing coins combined — the overall “size” of that cryptocurrency in the market.

Why Price Alone Is Misleading
This is the trap most beginners fall into. They see Coin A priced at $0.005 and think “it’s cheap, it could easily go to $1.” But what if Coin A has 100 billion coins in circulation? At $0.005 with 100 billion supply, its market cap is already $500 million. For that coin to reach $1, its market cap would need to hit $100 billion — nearly as large as Ethereum.

If Bitcoin’s market cap is $1.4 trillion, a 2x increase means it needs to reach $2.8 trillion — possible but it would take massive global adoption. If a mid-cap coin’s market cap is $3 billion, a 2x to $6 billion is much more achievable.
